Deepening Exchanges with HK University and Starting a New Chapter of Cooperation

In the critical period of the university's “Double First-Class” creation, in order to strengthen academic cooperation and resource sharing with the world's first-class universities, learn from the experience of high-level research universities, and continue to deepen the internationalization level of the university in talent cultivation, academic research, etc., President Wu Zhishen was invited to lead a delegation to visit The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) on January 6th and 7th. Heads of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, School of Food Science and Engineering, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and School of Design and Art accompanied the visit.

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, with distinctive professional characteristics and strong research strength, is ranked 57th in the QS World University Rankings and continues to be among the top 100 universities in the world, and its disciplines of food science and engineering, art and design are renowned globally. On the afternoon of January 6, Academician Jin-Guang TENG, President of PolyU met with the delegation. Jin-Guang TENG extended a warm welcome to Wu Zhi-Shen and his delegation. He fondly recalled the history of scientific exchanges with Prof. Wu Zhi-Shen over the past two decades and exchanged views on the progress of scientific research frontiers made in the common disciplines. Wu Zhishen said that since he came to work in Henan University of Technology, he has attached great importance to exchanges and cooperation with high-level universities in Hong Kong, and hoped that both sides could take this exchange as an opportunity to deepen the exchanges and mutual trust, realize the sharing of resources, and jointly explore a new path of cooperation. Subsequently, the two sides carried out in-depth communication around the key areas of the future direction of cooperation between the two universities, such as the joint training of doctoral students and the establishment of joint research institutes.

In the field of food science and engineering, accompanied by Prof. Chen Sheng, head of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, the delegation focused on the research of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, the laboratory of the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Science and Technology, and the Institute of Future Food Research. The two sides carried out in-depth exchanges in scientific research, talent training, social services, etc., reached a consensus on cooperation in the future direction of nutritional and health food, functional food, special medical food research, and reached a comprehensive cooperation agreement in international scientific research cooperation, PhD training in food management, and so on.

In the field of electro-mechanical and network engineering, the delegation investigated the Joint Laboratory of Network Optical Interconnection and Advanced Computing Systems, Quantum Technology Research Institute, etc., and had in-depth exchanges with Prof. Haimin Yao, Associate Dean of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Haibo Hu, Associate Dean of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and Prof. Lipei Zhou, Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. The two sides exchanged views on the robot perception and control, fiber optic communication and information security, bionic materials and mechanics, and advanced manufacturing, and planned to establish cooperation in industrial services and joint doctoral training.

In the field of art and design disciplines, the delegation, led by Prof. Zhang Yan, Vice Dean of the School of Design, visited the Asian Lifestyle Design Laboratory, the Asian Ergonomic Design Laboratory, the Interaction Design Laboratory, the Information Design Laboratory, the Public Design Laboratory, the Digital Entertainment Laboratory, and the Creativity and Design Education Laboratory of the School of Design. The two sides reached a preliminary cooperation intention in co-convening international conferences, industrial cooperation research, and joint enrollment and training of course doctoral degree.

During the visit, the delegation had a comprehensive discussion with the heads of the Mainland Development Office, School of Engineering, School of Design and other faculties of the university in the areas of food science, mechanical engineering, design innovation and the technology application, laying a foundation for promoting the development of disciplines of strengths and research collaboration between the two universities in the future. The two sides reached a number of cooperation intentions on the development of disciplines, mutual visits of teachers, scientific research cooperation, joint training of talents, short-term exchanges during summer and winter vacations, and other aspects of the two schools, with significant results.

The visit to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University by the delegation led by President Wu Zhishen is a positive step for the university to strengthen its internationalization development and to promote the strategy of opening up to the outside world at a high level. Through expanding exchanges and cooperation with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the university will introduce advanced education concepts and quality resources from world-class universities, establish close strategic partnerships, and jointly cultivate high-quality talents with international competitiveness, so as to assist the university in the creation of the “Double First-Class” and the establishment of a high-level university.
